Woman's body covered in plastic bag discovered at Kaohsiung's Zhengyi railway station
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- A worker stumbled upon the corpse of a woman whose head was covered in a plastic bag while working on Kaohsiung's underground railway line at Zhengyi Station on Tuesday afternoon (May 14).
On Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., while manning an excavator in a trench 500 meters away from the Zhengyi Station in Kaohsiung's Sanmin District, a worker discovered the corpse of a woman wearing a raincoat and sweatpants and whose head was covered by a plastic bag, reported UDN. The worker notified police who immediately cordoned off the scene, searched for evidence, and notified the Kaohsiung District Prosecutor's Office to clarify the cause of death.
After a preliminary investigation, police found that the 57-year-old woman surnamed Liu (劉) was originally from the city's Fengshan District, reported CNA. No obvious injuries were found on Liu's body, but she had left home after an argument with her family members on May 8, according to the report.
On May 9, Liu's relatives reported to police that she had gone missing. They said that she had previously hinted that she was contemplating committing suicide and on the night of her disappearance, she did not take her cellphone with her, reported Apple Daily.
Police suspect that after Liu wandered onto the construction site, she first took medication before suffocating herself with the plastic bag. However, because police cannot yet rule out foul play, the case has been transferred to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutor's Office for further investigation.
Those considering suicide should immediately call the Taiwan Suicide Prevention Center at any time at 0800-788995 or Taiwan Lifeline International at 1995. Foreign residents can call the Community Services Center's emergency hotline at 0932-594-578 at any time 24 hours a day.
