Heavy rain alert issued for N. Taiwan, mercury drops to 15 degrees Celsius
北台灣發出大雨警報,氣溫降至15度

Heavy rain alert issued for 5 cities, counties in Taiwan, low of 15.4 degrees Celsius recorded in New Taipei
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) predicts that rain will be seen across Taiwan, with a heavy rain advisory issued in five cities and countries, while the mercury dipped to as low as 15.4 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan this morning.
Due to the effects of a southern cloud system and a northeastern monsoon, the CWB said that rainfall is likely across Taiwan this morning. The CWB has issued a heavy rain advisory for Taipei City, New Taipei City, Keelung City, Yilan County, and Nantou County.
The CWB predicts that as the cloud system passes in the afternoon, skies will become partly cloudy over the plains in central and southern Taiwan, while northern Taiwan, eastern Taiwan, and mountainous areas may still see scattered showers.
In terms of temperature, the northeast monsoon has caused the mercury to dip in northern Taiwan, with the lowest temperature recorded at 6 a.m. this morning being 15.4 degrees in New Taipei City's Fuguijiao, while lows elsewhere ranged between 18 and 21 degrees. During the daytime, the high temperature in northern Taiwan will only reach 21 or 22 degrees, eastern Taiwan will see highs range between 24 and 25 degrees, and central and southern Taiwan will see the mercury rise to 26 or 27 degrees.
The CWB predicts that as the northeast monsoon weakens on Wednesday (May 8), temperatures will rise slightly, but showers will still be likely in northern and eastern Taiwan. On Thursday and Friday (May 9 and 10), another plum rain weather front is expected to arrive, bringing showers to northern and eastern Taiwan and cloudy skies in southern Taiwan.
As the weather front leaves Taiwan on Saturday (May 11), the weather will begin to stabilize, with scattered showers in southern and eastern Taiwan, afternoon thunderstorms in mountainous areas of central and northern Taiwan, and partly cloudy to sunny skies to the rest of the country.
