Calligrapher's debut exhibition kicks off at Yiyun Art of Taipei

Thirteen works, mostly classical Buddhist sutras, are on display until May 19
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chinese calligrapher Su Yue (宿悅) is showcasing thirteen sutra calligraphy works and more at the Yiyun Art (異雲書屋) gallery in Taipei until May 19.
The Yiyun Art gallery is located in a quiet area of Daan district (大安區) and has been dedicated to hosting exhibitions that related to calligraphy art over the past two years. This time, they are showcasing the Beijing based Chinese calligrapher, Su Yue’s debut exhibition in Taipei.
The exhibition displays Su’s thirteen renowned calligraphy works such as “The Heart of Prajna Sutra” (心經), “The Diamond Sutra” (金剛經) and “Tao te Ching”(道德經). Moreover, in the center of the exhibition room, a seven minute long video plays showing the journey of the artist’s working progress.
“Su has been keen on Chinese calligraphy and started to practice it since childhood. Nowadays, he is more focused and concentrates harder than before. Therefore, he has gradually formed a unique style,” said Yiyun Art.
Yiyun Art stated the the philosophy of Su is that calligraphy is a part of people’s daily life rather than a kind of art that depart from our routines.
The founder of Yiyun Art, Chen Wei-Jun (陳維駿), explained that they tend to invite the audience to understand calligraphy with their hearts rather than senses. Additionally, through Su’s works, people will know more about the power and beauty of Eastern calligraphy.
