Cool temperatures and wet weather in store for northern Taiwan over next 2 days


TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Due to the effects of a northeast monsoon, the early morning low temperature in northern Taiwan will drop to 18 degrees Celsius and high temperatures are expected to decrease by 4 to 7 degrees Celsius, as a weather front arrives, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

From nightfall to Tuesday morning, rain will begin to increase as a weather front arrives. The rain will soon envelop much of western Taiwan, with lightening and heavy downpours likely.

CWB forecaster Lin Ding-yi (林定宜) said that early this morning conditions were cool in northern Taiwan. The daytime high temperatures north of Taoyuan, as well as Yilan and Hualien will?range between 22 and 24 degrees, which is a four to seven-degree drop from Sunday (April 14).

Starting in the evening, rainfall will increase significantly in northern Taiwan. On Tuesday, a new weather front will approach Taiwan.

From this evening until Tuesday morning, western and northeastern Taiwan will see successive scattered showers and thunderstorms. Heavy downpours are possible in some areas.

There will also be brief showers in eastern and southeastern Taiwan. Starting on Wednesday, the front will gradually shift away from Taiwan and moisture will begin to decrease during the day.
