3 Taiwan restaurants named Asia's 50 Best in foodie Oscars

3家台灣餐廳被評為亞洲50大最佳餐廳

Three fine dining establishments in Taipei and another in Taichung have been recognized for their excellence

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Three restaurants based in Taipei have been recognized as among the top 50 in Asia, while a Taichung restaurant was dubbed "One to Watch," by awards organizer William Reed Business Media.

Odette in Singapore took the number one spot, followed by Gaggan in Bangkok, and Den in Tokyo.

The contemporary European-style restaurant MUME, in Taipei's Da'an district, clinched the No. 7 spot. Also listed among the 50 Best Restaurants were the award-winning RAW, in 30th place, owned by acclaimed Taiwanese chef Andre Chiang (江振誠), followed by Japanese restaurant RyuGin Taipei (31).

Both MUME and RyuGin Taipei were named among the 1,000 best restaurants in the world by the French food guide La Liste 2019.

According to the Michelin Guide, the Michelin-starred MUME serves dishes rich in fresh herbs and flowers in a "dimly-lit faux-industrial interior." It offers an a-la-carte menu, with a minimum charge of NT$1,500 (US$50) per guest.

The Michelin-starred Raw provides an 8-course prix-fixe menu of Taiwanese cuisine that is influenced by street food, at its futuristic Weijenberg interior-designed restaurant. Each set menu is priced between NT$1,500 and above. All prices include a 10% service charge.

Located in Zhongshan district, near the Miramar Ferris Wheel, the Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant RyuGin Taipei is a sister restaurant to RyuGin Japan, based in Tokyo. Each set menu is priced at NT$6,500 (US$210). All prices include a 10%-15% service charge.

The contemporary Singaporean-style restaurant JL Studio in Taichung is the only Asian restaurant listed in "One to Watch" for 2019.

Dubbed the “foodie Oscars,” Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list is published by William Reed Business Media, which also publishes The World's 50 Best Restaurants, launched in 2002, and Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants, launched in 2013.
