TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Hsinshe Army Aviation Base (龍翔營區) in Taichung City will be open to visits from civilians on March 30, with a slew of performances to entertain visitors, according to a news release published on Taichung Travel Net on Monday.

Taichung’s Civil Affairs Bureau held a press conference on Monday to announce the military base’s opening to civilian visits. Civil Affairs Bureau director Wu Shi-wei (吳世瑋) said that, as the roads in the Hsinshe area are narrow, the public are urged to take the free shuttle buses provided by the military.

There will be five shuttle bus stations set up for the event: Shengang Parking Lot (Green Line), Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium (Purple Line), Dongshi Riverside Park (Pink Line), Houli Horse Ranch (Yellow Line), and TRA Taiyuan Station (Blue Line), according to the news release.

A slew of performances have been arranged to entertain the civilians and demonstrate skills of some military units, including such activities as fighter jets’ flyover, helicopter parade, parachuting by the army’s Dragon Team, battle drum performance by the Army Academy, performance by Taichung Girls’ Senior High School’s honor guards, performance by Shin Min High School’s marching band, the Special Force’s combat skill show, air-land battle demonstration, and armored personnel carrier ride, the bureau said.

Visitors must carry a photo-ID document that includes the bearer's image, such as a driver’s license or a National Health Insurance card, in order to be admitted to the base.

Foreign nationals are also welcome to attend the event, but they are required to apply for access in advance of the event. For application, please call Mr. Lai at (04) 25824974 or 0982979593.
