Taiwan Tourism Bureau to offer spring travel subsidies of up to NT$1,500 to travelers between the ages of 18 and 40

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The Taiwan Tourism Bureau yesterday announced that it will offer?spring travel subsidies?of up to NT$1,500 for citizens between the ages of 18 and 40.

Tourism Bureau director-general Chou Yung-hui (周永暉) said that the program will run from April 1 to mid June and will offer?subsidies to both independent travelers and group tourists. At the same time, Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR), Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), Chunghwa Post, and Chunghwa Telecom, will also provide various discounts and assistance.

The subsidies include the following:

1. Independent travelers

Independent travelers between the ages of 18 and 40 can receive a subsidy of NT$500 per hotel room. They can receive an additional subsidy of NT$500 for accommodations in any of Taiwan's outer islands.

A third subsidy of NT$500 is being offered to travelers who visit one of Taiwan's 40 "charismatic" towns that the bureau selected this year. This brings the total amount of subsidies independent travelers can apply for to NT$1,500.

2. Group tourists

For tour groups of at least 10 people, each person can receive a daily subsidy of NT$500 and a maximum of NT$30,000 per group. However, this maximum amount is raised to NT$50,000 for tour groups that travel to Taiwan's outer islands or stay at star-rated hotels.

3. THSR discounts

Travelers who book hotels which are partners with THSR tickets, can receive a 30 percent discount on the price of the room. Those who buy THSR tickets on holidays could have the chance of staying at THSR partner hotels for free.

Travelers who go on a one-day tour of of Jiji (集集) in Nantou County or Highway No. 3, are eligible for a voucher worth NT$1,000.

4. TRA discounts

During the promotion, three-day passes, which normally cost NT$1,800, can be purchased for NT$1,200, essentially making the third day free. Passengers taking the Pingxi, Neiwan, Jiji lines, as well as the northeast coast railway tour, can receive a 30 percent discount on a one-day pass.
