TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwanese tennis champion, Hseih Su-Wei (謝淑薇) has accomplished another victory at the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships.
Hseih, along with her Czech partner, Barbora Strycova, have won the women’s double tournament, after an exciting championship match up against Chech athlete, Lucie Hradecka, and Ekaterina Makarova from Russia, in Dubai on Saturday, Feb. 23.
After defeating fellow compatriots the Chan sisters on Friday in Dubai, Hseih and Strycova, who were the No. 3 seeds in the tournament advanced to the championship round, where they were able to overcome the Czech-Russia duo, who were ranked as the No. 7 seed.
In two sets, both resulting in scores of 6:4, Hseih and Strycova were able to reach victory.
Strycova was quoted by WTA Tennis following the match.
"I think we were playing really, really good, high level, especially second set when we were leading 4-1. Until 4-1, 40-Love, we didn't kind of miss any ball. We had the chemistry on court. We know exactly what to do."
The Taiwanese-Czech duo looks to be a powerful pair this year in womens’ tennis.
Hseih was quoted by WTA Tennis discussing their teamwork and their victory.
"I'm happy to play together. We always enjoy. I mean, last week was tough, but I was very positive. I don't really worry about it. We tried really hard this week to improve little bit than last week. We do better and better. It is a very good combination what we do. We're covering. We are running everywhere - was pretty fun."
For their victory in Dubai, the duo will walk away with the US$150,000 prize.
