台北燈節東京迪士尼遊行盛大閉幕

The event on Feb. 24 will be teeming with music, dance, acrobatic stunts, and more

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The 2019 Taipei Lantern Festival will reach its climax when a carnival parade takes place in Ximending on Sunday (Feb. 24), bringing an end to the nine-day event with entertainment and excitement.

The carnival will feature the “Tokyo Disney Resort 35th Anniversary Special Parade,” the first overseas performance for the Japanese theme park. Disney characters will greet the spectators riding the float “Dream Cruiser III,” while more than 80 kids from Taipei will join Disney dancers in the performance.

The float, on display since the beginning of the lantern fest at the intersection of Zhonghua Road Sec. 1 and Hankou Street Sec. 2, has become one of the most popular spots for photography among lantern fest visitors.

Other figures to take part in the celebrations include Peppa Pig, Open Chan, Taipei City mascot Bravo the bear, hip hop band Da Mouth, music group and Golden Melody Awards winner Boxing, circus troupe Formosa Circus Art, rock band floats, as well as various performance troupes from Brazil, Italy, and Spain.

The procession will start at Fuxing Elementary School at 3 p.m. and march all the way along Zhonghua Road and Guiyang Street. Traffic controls will be implemented in the area between noon and 6:00 p.m. on the day of the event, so the public are advised to use alternative routes.
