Four bystanders restrain man after he puts blonde hairdresser in headlock in New Taipei City's Sanchong District
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Four good Samaritans rescued a Taiwanese woman who was put into a headlock by a deranged man in New Taipei City last Friday night (Dec. 14), reported UDN.
As a 20-year-old blonde hairdresser surnamed Chiang (江) was walking down Zhengyi North Road in New Taipei City's Sanchong District at 11 p.m. last Friday, she passed a 26-year-old man surnamed Wu (吳) who accosted her. As she tried to walk past him, he suddenly put her in headlock. On several occasions she managed to break free briefly, only to have Wu pull her hair and put her back in the hold.
After nearly a minute of struggling to free herself from Wu, a bystander started questioning the suspect, before eventually grabbing him and trying to pull him off Chiang. A few seconds later, a second and third man stepped into the fray, but the Wu continued to cling to Chiang.
A fourth man then stepped in and distracted Wu, while the other three pulled Chiang away. When Wu tried to repeat the assault, the four men wrestled Wu to the ground and pinned him down until police could come to take him into custody.
After Wu was questioned by police, they found that he had no prior criminal record and no history of mental illness. He claimed that he did not know the victim, and he had suddenly somehow lost control of his emotions.
Wu claims he blacked out during the assault and has no recollection of the incident. Police have transferred Wu to the Prosecutor's Office on charges of deprivation of liberty and assault (妨害自由、傷害).
