'Game of Thrones' themed dragon steals the show at Taiwan’s motorless car race

“冰與火之歌”主題龍在台灣無動力造型車賽中贏得大獎

The delicately made dragon won the biggest prize with a cash award of NT$200,000

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A decorated cart inspired by the massive hit "Game of Thrones” claimed gold and brought home a cash award of NT$200,000 (US$6,422) at one of Taiwan’s most fun motorless vehicle competitions – 2018 Siraya Go CreCar – on Nov. 25.

Now in its fifth year, the event took place at Tsou Ma Lai Farm (走馬瀨農場) in Siraya National Scenic Area (西拉雅國家風景區). The contest saw 43 teams in participation and vying for the biggest title while showcasing their creativity and craft, with a total prize amount of NT$450,000 (US$14,450), according to Tourism Bureau.

The team that stole the limelight was Golden Flying Dragon, inspired by the fire-breathing dragons appearing in the TV blockbuster “Game of Thrones.” The yellow dragon features exquisitely-made paper scales and a fiery look, leaving everyone wowed at the perfect execution of the work. Indisputably, the golden dragon snatched the gold prize with NT$200,000.

Other highlights in the race include carts sporting themes of a pirate ship, forklift, Doraemon, Lanyu canoe, French fries, and a dragon whose scales comprise tens of thousands of shreds from recycled aluminum cans – an eco-minded piece that won over the jury’s heart and clinched the Jury Prize.

In addition to the exciting and fun-packed race, the event also featured a camping exhibition, outdoor fair marketing local produce, picnicking activity, and more.
