A magnitude 4.2 earthquake shook residents in western Taiwan early this morning


TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- A magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit western Taiwan at 1:36 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 7), according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The earthquake's epicenter was located at sea about 42.9 kilometers west-northwest of Yunlin County Hall, at a depth of 22.3 kilometers, according to CWB data.

The earthquake's intensity was highest in Changhua County, Yunlin County, and Taichung City, where it measured a 3.

An intensity of 2 was felt in Nantou County, Taichung City, Penghu County, Miaoli County, and Chiayi County. While an intensity level of 1 was felt in Chiayi city, Tainan City, Hsinchu County, and Yilan County.

No injuries were reported at the time of publication.

Located along the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt in a specific location.
