TAIPEI (Taiwan News) - If you are looking for something to get into this weekend in the Taipei area, there are plenty of options to choose from. Don't be lazy, get out there and see what Taipei has to offer!
Here are just a few interesting events for the weekend of November 3rd - 5th that may catch your eye.
Conventions, Festivals, and Exhibitions
The 2017 Taiwan Jewellery and Gem Fair opens on November 3rd and will go through the Monday November 6th. It is being held at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 and is open to the public, with registration.
The annual Maker Faire Taipei is taking place at Huashan Creative Park. The Faire showcases some amazing products and crafts including traditional handcrafts as well as cutting edge innovations electronics and robotic. The Faire is open from 10:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The coming weekend will be the last opportunity to check out the Spectrosynthesis-Asian LGBTQ Issues and Art Now exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary art in Taipei. The art exhibit contains works of over 20 artists engaging with social issues and self-examination related to the LGBTQ community in Taiwan and Asia. Entry is NT$50 and November 5th is the last day of the exhibit.
The Japanese artist and designer Noritake is kicking off a November solo exhibition in Taipei starting Friday the 3rd. The exhibition is being held at the Pon Ding coffee shop and bookstore, and will last through November 26th.
The Guandu International Nature Arts Festival continues this weekend. The theme is “With Paths Criss-crossing” and the event aims to highlight the relationship between man and the environment, and celebrate natural aesthetics. Come for a beautiful stroll around the outdoor exhibition in Guandu Nature Park. Admission in NT$60 for adults.

Food and Drink
For those with a sweet tooth or a love of coffee, check out some of Taipei's best local bakers, pastry chefs and coffee roasters at the Tian jia 甜珈 event that will be held every Saturday and Sunday in November at the Lanqiu restaurant in Shilin District (藍秋手作甜品專賣部).
Coffee lovers should also be excited for the Coffee Mania Festival 2017(咖啡爽節之夜) being held at the Lifenext Market in Zhongshan district on Saturday the 4th, from 10:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. For more information check out the event organizers page.
Music and Dance
The Homeland Chamber Ensemble will be at the Eslite Performance Hall on Sunday the 5th. The Ensemble plays traditional Japanese and Taiwanese music. Tickets are still available here.
If you are looking for a chance to put on your dancing shoes and have an interest in Swing dancing, then join the Let's Swing dance party hosted by the Big Apple Swing Studio happening this Saturday night! The venue is in Taipei's Da'an District.
Walking Tours around Taipei
Free walking tours of Taipei sponsored by the Department of Information and Tourism are available regularly every weekend. Check out the Historic walking tour that starts at Longshan MRT Station.
Or in the afternoon, the Golden Age Walking tour is available Saturday or Sunday at 3p.m. starting at Ximen station. Both tours last about 2.5 hours, and are free of charge. Just remember to register first, and find more info on other tour options at the Like it Formosa webpage.

Regular Hangouts
If you're in the mood to put your English to use and enjoy an open forum to discuss different topics and hear presentations in English, check out the iEnglish Club English Gathering on Saturday. The topic this week is "Can money buy you happiness " and includes two presentations Event starts at 2:30pm and costs NT$150 to join.
The Age 22up Social Networks will meet this Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at EPL Steakhouse & Lounge in Taipei. Drinks are NT$300 and NT$200 if you click going on their Facebook event site. Those interested are encouraged to bring their business cards.
The English and All Languages Meet Up 200 meets again this Sunday at Brass Monkey in Taipei beginning at 6:30 p.m. From 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. is Chinese only practice time.
