National Taiwan University drops 22 places in global college rankings

NTU at No.166, with National Tsing Hua University at No.370
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) –National Taiwan University (台大) dropped 22 spots to No.166 in the latest list from U.S. News & World Report, but it still remained the best college in Taiwan, according to the survey.
The publication rated 1,250 colleges and universities across 74 countries for its 2018 Best Global Universities rankings.
A total of 24 Taiwanese institutions made the list, though only two appeared among the top 500, NTU at No.166 and National Tsing Hua University (清大) in Hsinchu at No.370, according to the Central News Agency.
Looking at Asia, Singapore was the best performer, with two of its schools at the top, namely National University of Singapore and Nanyang University of Technology. The University of Tokyo came third in Asia, while NTU came in at No.17.
On a global scale, U.S. colleges dominated the rankings, with Harvard University at the top, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at No.2 and Stanford University at No.3. The only non-American universities in the top-10 were British rivals Oxford at No.5 and Cambridge at No.7.
Research and publications by the universities and their overall reputation played an important part in the determination of the schools’ rankings, U.S. News & World Report said.
