Mayor Ko lauds Taipei public bus system as inexpensive, punctual and efficient
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A video of Taipei city mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) taking the public bus to work to encourage more citizens to commute via public transportation has surprised many netizens.
At 7 a.m. on Oct 24, Mayor Ko posted a live video of him taking the public bus to the office with the caption reading "Let's take a bus to work and together contribute to make a better traffic condition for Taipei city," which attracted 5,000 online viewers and thousands of likes.
In the video, he said that traffic in Taipei city is now facing a problem of too many private cars; therefore, more people switching from driving their own cars to the bus is a good solution to improve traffic condition in the city. Moreover, public transportation has advantages of its inexpensive travel fare, efficiency, and punctuality, Ko added.
Ko also mentioned Apps.Taipei, which features various useful Taipei City-related mobile applications for people who seek information about bus routes, finding taxis, crowdsourcing disaster relief, traveling and translation. Additionally, a mobile version in Chinese called "Friendly Taipei" is now available on iOS and Android phone.
