TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei 101 staged a 14-minute fireworks and drone show Saturday night to celebrate Taiwan’s National Day, combining 600 drones, building illumination, and laser effects under the theme “Onward Taiwan: Let’s Light Up Taiwan Together.”
The performance began at 10 p.m. with a one-minute fireworks display, followed by a 10-minute drone show and a three-minute fireworks finale. Taishin Shin Kong Financial Holding sponsored the event for the second consecutive year, per CTS.
The drones formed images inspired by Taiwanese culture and everyday life, including traditional lanterns, coins, and pineapples—symbols of prosperity and good fortune. The show also featured playful designs such as taro and hot pot, reflecting a more lighthearted approach to the annual celebration.
Taipei 101 Chair Janet Chia (賈永婕) said organizers wanted to incorporate elements reflecting Taiwan’s lighthearted and creative spirit. The performance marked the third year of Taipei 101’s National Day fireworks celebration, with organizers expanding the production and increasing the drone fleet from 500 last year to 600 this year, per CNA.
Before the fireworks began, three mascots entertained the crowd: Taipei City Government’s Bravo Bear, Taipei 101’s Damper Baby, and Taishin Shin Kong Financial Holding’s Richart. The mascots posed for photos with spectators, adding to the festive atmosphere ahead of the main event.
Chia thanked Taishin Shin Kong Financial Holding for sponsoring the show for two consecutive years, saying the partnership allowed the public to enjoy a performance combining technology, art, and creativity while celebrating Taiwan’s National Day, per CNA.
Taipei 101 also scheduled a three-night exterior light show from Friday through Sunday under the theme “A Smart Partner,” featuring illuminated messages and laser beams. In recent years, the landmark skyscraper has become a backdrop for large-scale public displays of Taiwanese cultural identity on important public holidays.
