Taiwan annual export value set to top NT$28.74 trillion for first time
台灣年度出口值預計首度突破新台幣28.74兆元
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s total export value is on track to exceed NT$28.74 trillion (US$900 billion) this year for the first time, the Ministry of Finance said Thursday.
September exports reached a record NT$2.79 trillion, up 60.9% from the same period a year earlier. The increase marked the 35th consecutive month of annual growth, the longest streak on record, according to RTI.
The ministry attributed the sustained growth to several factors. Global investment in technological innovation and AI has helped offset geopolitical uncertainties and inflation concerns, supporting a relatively stable global economic outlook.
Meanwhile, emerging applications have driven upgrades to electronic components, boosting demand for more advanced products and increasing export values and volumes. Capacity constraints across the electronics supply chain have also kept prices elevated, while new mobile devices and consumer electronics launches have prompted a wave of restocking.
Information, communication and audiovisual products, along with electronic components, remained the country’s two main export drivers in September. Both categories recorded their second-highest monthly export values on record, at NT$1.25 trillion and NT$994 billion, respectively.
Looking ahead, the ministry expects exports to grow 40-44% year-on-year in October, reaching between NT$2.72 trillion and NT$2.8 trillion. If monthly exports remain at a conservative NT$2.56 trillion through the end of the year, full-year exports would exceed NT$28.74 trillion, according to CNA.
Last year, exports reached a record NT$20.47 trillion, up 34.9% from 2024. The ministry said the continued development of AI and the rapid expansion of its applications had driven upgrades to electronic components, complementing Taiwan’s competitive advantages in technology industries, according to Yahoo Stocks.
The ministry acknowledged that its earlier forecasts for this year had been more conservative, as they were based on historical trends that might not fully reflect the scale of AI-driven growth. It added that related investment and applications were expected to continue expanding.
