AMD to increase Taiwan investment as AI demand grows

AMD因AI需求成長 將加碼在台投資

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — AMD plans to increase its investment in Taiwan beyond US$10 billion (NT$317.6 billion) as strong artificial intelligence demand drives the need for more production capacity, CNA reported Tuesday.

AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su (蘇姿丰) visited several major Taiwanese technology companies during a brief trip. She met executives from Foxconn, Quanta, Asus, and Acer before traveling to Hsinchu to meet with TSMC.

Su said Taiwan is home to many of AMD’s customers, partners, and suppliers. She said close cooperation with them is becoming more important as demand for computing power continues to grow.

AMD has expanded capacity this year as demand rises for processors used in AI systems and data centers. Su said demand still exceeds supply, prompting the company to work with TSMC, chip-packaging firms, and other suppliers to increase capacity.

AMD announced in May that it would invest more than US$10 billion in Taiwan’s technology supply chain. Su said the investment is progressing as planned, but the company now expects to spend more as demand continues to rise.

The chipmaker has benefited from strong demand for AI and data-center processors this year. Its market value recently surpassed US$1 trillion.
