Lin Chia-lung calls for stronger Taiwan–UK cooperation
林佳龍呼籲強化台英合作
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said Friday that Taiwan and the UK should deepen cooperation across sectors and strengthen global democratic resilience.
During a luncheon for a visiting UK parliamentary delegation, Lin said Taiwan is a key hub in the global high-tech and semiconductor supply chain and an indispensable strategic partner for Europe, according to the foreign ministry. He cited the Enhanced Trade Partnership signed in 2023 and three subsequent agreements covering investment, digital trade, and energy and net-zero emissions.
Lin said the agreements set a strong example of mutually beneficial cooperation among like-minded partners. He added that Taiwan and the UK share values such as freedom, democracy, and the rule of law and are committed to upholding a rules-based international order.
Sarah Champion, co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Taiwan, said the delegation exchanged views with Taiwanese officials on economic ties, public health, disinformation, and cybersecurity during its visit.
Champion said Taiwan’s vibrant democracy and the friendliness of its people left a deep impression on the delegation. Maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and promoting regional prosperity are in the shared interests of all parties, she said.
Champion added that the UK Parliament would continue to closely monitor peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and support bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
During its trip, the delegation met Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), and National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮).
