AIT director says Taichung emerging as national drone hub
美國在台協會(AIT)處長表示,台中正崛起成為全國無人機重鎮
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung has become a major drone hub, American Institute in Taiwan Director Raymond Greene said on Thursday.
While attending the opening of the Meicun Comprehensive Service Park, Greene said Taichung is a center for precision drone manufacturing and systems integration. He called it an essential part of the aerospace components and industrial supply chain, Liberty Times reported.
As cooperation between the US and Taiwan in technology, aerospace, and defense supply chains continues to deepen, Greene said Taichung is poised to play a key supporting role in expanding the country’s drone industry globally.
Greene noted that the new service park was converted from a former US military personnel club, in the largest US military community in western Taiwan. He said the site symbolizes the enduring and deepening friendship between the two countries.
The government passed a NT$240 billion (US$7.3 billion) budget last week for domestic drone production and procurement. The budget will be divided over six years and will be overseen by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The Ministry of National Defense will be responsible for military procurement.
