Google offers college students in Taiwan free year of AI Plus

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Google is offering eligible college students in Taiwan a free one-year subscription to its Google AI Plus plan.

Students can activate the plan by verifying their eligibility with a school-issued email address, according to a Google blog post. The offer includes access to the Gemini Omni model, which has enhanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities, twice the standard usage limits, and 400 GB of cloud storage.

Google is also introducing new AI learning tools through Gemini and Google Search, per CNA. Its study notebooks feature uses interactive quizzes to identify knowledge gaps, then generates personalized study plans based on learning goals.

Another feature, interactive visualizations, can generate rotatable and zoomable 3D models and interactive charts from user prompts, allowing students to visualize abstract concepts. Google Search can also generate practice questions for subjects, giving students a way to test their understanding.

Google said the goal of AI in education is not to provide shortcuts but to spark curiosity and deepen understanding. Its learning tools use a guided learning approach designed to work like a personal tutor, helping students solve problems step by step while developing independent thinking skills.
