Taiwan household disposable income hits record NT$1.21 million

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's average household disposable income reached a record NT$1.21 million (US$38,500) in 2025, up 3.9% from a year earlier, according to a report issued Friday by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics.

Disposable income refers to income remaining after non-consumption expenditures such as taxes and social insurance premiums have been deducted, leaving money available for consumption or savings, per Storm Media.

Hsinchu retained its position as the municipality with the highest average household disposable income at NT$1.604 million, followed by Hsinchu County at NT$1.569 million. Taipei ranked third at NT$1.554 million per household.

Hsinchu's high ranking was attributed to its concentration of high-tech companies in the Hsinchu Science Park and the growth of the AI industry. Taipei, meanwhile, benefits from its position as Taiwan's political and financial center, per CNA.

Among Taiwan's six major municipalities, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Taichung all recorded average household disposable income above the national average of NT$1.21 million. Tainan and Kaohsiung were below the national average, with household disposable income of NT$1.044 million and NT$1.206 million, respectively.

DGBAS added that average household consumption expenditure reached NT$920,000 in 2025, an increase of 3.6% from 2024. Average household savings rose 4.9% to NT$290,000 during the same period, per the report.
