Taiwan's PharmaEssentia posts record results on growing Ropeg sales

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — PharmaEssentia Corp. reported strong financial results as global sales of its Ropeg treatment continued to grow.

Ropeg is currently approved in 50 countries to treat polycythemia vera, a rare blood disorder in which the bone marrow produces too many blood cells, particularly red blood cells. The company posted record revenue and profit for both the second quarter and the first half of the year, according to CTEE and UDN Money.

Second-quarter revenue reached NT$6.86 billion (US$214.4 million), up 90.3% from the same period a year earlier. First-half revenue totaled NT$12 billion, an increase of 74.59% year-on-year.

The US approved a prefilled, single-use Ropeg injection pen in June, and the product went on sale domestically in July. The new format is expected to make treatment more convenient and increase Ropeg's penetration in the US market.

The company said the expansion of its sales and medical affairs teams in the US and Japan has helped broaden its market reach. PharmaEssentia also credited its medical messaging with increasing adoption of the treatment, contributing to its overall financial performance.

Further growth could come from the expected approval of Ropeg for essential thrombocythemia (ET) in Japan and the US later this year, further expanding the medication's revenue potential. ET is a separate blood disorder in which the body produces too many platelets, raising the risk of blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes, according to Cleveland Clinic.

The US Food and Drug Administration has set Aug. 30 as the target date to complete its review of Ropeg for ET. If approved, it would become the first FDA-approved treatment for ET in nearly 30 years.
