Booking platform survey shows Taiwanese spend hours planning group trips

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Klook survey found that more than 85% of Taiwanese travelers spend over 10 hours planning a weeklong group trip, the highest share among 10 markets surveyed, CNA reported Monday.

Booking platform Klook surveyed 2,725 travelers across 10 markets about the time and effort involved in planning trips. About 75% of travelers across the surveyed markets said planning a weeklong group trip took more than 10 hours.

Klook said 47% of Taiwanese travelers spent between 10 and 20 hours planning a group trip. Another 39% said they spent more than 40 hours on the task.

The company said travelers who had never planned a group trip often believed the work could be completed in less than 10 hours. Klook said the results showed that many people underestimated the time and effort needed to organize group travel, per Economic Daily News.

Klook said the biggest challenge for Taiwanese trip planners was balancing the different needs of group members. About 51% said coordinating everyone's schedules was the most difficult task, followed by managing budgets and dealing with unexpected changes during a trip.

The survey also asked Taiwanese planners about comments they often heard from other travelers. Common responses included questions about why certain places were not included, complaints about costs, and suggestions that someone else could plan the trip better.

More than 80% of Taiwanese trip planners said they believed their planning time was worth at least NT$1,600 (US$50) per hour, according to Klook. Based on 10 to 20 hours of planning, Klook estimated that the perceived value of the time spent organizing one trip could exceed NT$32,000.
