TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The New Taipei Department of Rapid Transit Systems announced Sunday that the New Taipei MRT Sanying Line has completed its final site inspection, bringing the project one step closer to opening, per CNA.

The inspection committee identified four items requiring improvement before operations can begin. Once the recommendations are implemented, New Taipei City will apply to the transport ministry for an operating permit, with officials aiming to launch service by mid-year.

According to a press release, the inspection was convened by Wu Tung-ling (吳東凌), director-general of the MOTC Department of Railways, Highways and Road Safety. Nine experts and scholars from across Taiwan conducted a comprehensive review of the line, including document reviews, on-site evaluations, simulation exercises, group discussions, and a final summary meeting.

New Taipei DORTS Director Lee Cheng-an (李政安) said committee members reached a consensus on four mandatory improvements, six general improvement items, and five additional recommendations for future enhancement. The four required improvements include optimizing passenger flow at LB01 Dingpu Station, completing unfinished operational facilities and equipment, improving safety signage, and adding warning lines to the floor of the 161-kilovolt equipment room at the Sanxia Main Substation.

Additionally, the committee watched an emergency drill conducted between LB03 Changshoushan Station and LB04 Hengxi Station, simulating a disabled train and injured passengers requiring evacuation and rescue. Despite heavy thunderstorms, operations and maintenance personnel successfully carried out emergency response procedures, per CNA.

Committee members reviewed passenger evacuation procedures, the control center's reporting mechanisms, and operational protocols, concluding that the exercise proceeded smoothly.

The Sanying Line is a 14.29-kilometer medium-capacity automated transit system with 12 stations connecting Tucheng, Sanxia, and Yingge districts. The line will provide transfers to the Taipei Metro Bannan Line at Dingpu Station and terminate at Yingtao Fude Station.

After opening, the Sanying Line will connect with the Taipei MRT network and Taiwan Railway through transfers at Dingpu Station and Yingge Station. The route is expected to reduce travel times between the Sanying area and Taipei by about 20 minutes. It will also provide access to major attractions such as Taipei City Art Museum, Yingge Ceramics Old Street, and Sanxia Old Street.
