Tainan expands mango sales to Japan with Taipei promotion

台南藉由台北推廣活動,將芒果銷往日本

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) promoted the city’s premium mangoes in Taipei on Sunday as the city expanded sales channels for buyers in Japan.

Tainan City Government held a press event at Dayeh Takashimaya in Taipei to promote Yujing Irwin mangoes and a new marketing brand called “Champagne mango.” The store’s Mia C’bon supermarket also began taking preorders for high-quality Tainan mangoes.

Huang said Tainan is the country’s most important mango-growing area. He said the city produces nearly half of Taiwan’s mangoes by planting area and output, CNA reported.

The mayor said Tainan's Irwin mangoes are popular because they are sweet, fragrant, and soft. He said the Champagne mango brand highlights fruit grown in Yujing’s soil and sunny climate.

Huang said the mangoes are picked only after they ripen on the tree. He said this helps the fruit keep its sweetness and richer flavor.

The city said Dayeh Takashimaya also offers a service that lets customers place orders in Taiwan and collect the fruit at partner locations in Japan. Some products can also be delivered to Japan, giving overseas buyers easier access to Tainan fruit, per UDN.

Huang said the city is working to sell more mangoes abroad because this year’s harvest is larger. He said Tainan will keep selling to Japan and South Korea while also expanding into premium markets in Southeast Asia, including Singapore.

Agriculture Bureau Director Li Fang-lin (李芳林) said stable weather and strong sunshine helped improve mango quality and output this year. He said the city will use festivals, department store sales, online platforms, and export programs to help farmers sell their fruit.
