Taiwan's Kinpo to manufacture game consoles for US startup

台灣金寶電子(Kinpo)將為美國新創公司生產遊戲機

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Electronics contract manufacturer Kinpo Group (金寶) held its annual shareholders’ meeting on Monday, outlining its future business plans and expanding role in the global technology supply chain.

Kinpo General Manager Chen Wei-chang (陳威昌) announced the company is manufacturing game consoles for a US startup. The contract includes handling the complete design and production process from the ground up, which Chen described as a significant milestone for the company, per CNA.

Chen said Kinpo secured the project because of its accumulated technological expertise across multiple sectors, including communications modules required for the consoles.

Addressing rising prices for components such as memory and CPUs, Chen said Kinpo’s current business model allows most material cost increases to be absorbed by customers. As a result, shortages and higher component prices have had only a limited impact on the company’s profitability.

Chen also said Kinpo is leveraging its experience in network communications and ground receiving stations to develop satellite base stations and user terminals capable of supporting high, medium, and low Earth orbit systems. He said he was optimistic about demand in Taiwan and neighboring Southeast Asian markets.

Asked about the possibility of further cooperation with Nvidia following CEO Jensen Huang’s recent visit to Taiwan, Chen said, “AI servers are a must,” adding that “NVIDIA values Taiwan’s supply chain.”

“Every company wants to be a part of it, and our expectations are the same,” Chen said.
