Taiwan’s Teng Kai-wei earns third win for Astros

台灣的鄧愷威為太空人隊贏得第三場勝利

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese pitcher Teng Kai-wei (鄧愷威) secured his third win of the season on Saturday as the Houston Astros shut out the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Teng delivered six scoreless innings in the best outing of his Major League Baseball career, setting personal highs in both pitches thrown and innings pitched. He displayed strong command throughout the game, keeping hitters off balance while striking out six, per CNA.

It was Teng’s second consecutive start. He also pitched effectively against the Texas Rangers in his previous appearance, though multiple walks created several difficult innings.

Against Chicago, Teng threw 89 pitches, including 56 strikes, and allowed only three walks, showing significant improvement in pitching efficiency.

Houston’s offense also provided support. Christian Walker homered in the first and fourth innings, accounting for all three of the Astros’ runs.

The bullpen took over in the seventh inning and preserved the shutout to secure the victory for Teng.

Teng’s sweeper proved especially effective against Cubs hitters, who managed only two hits through the first six innings. He struck out several batters, including veteran Seiya Suzuki, and retired the side in order in the sixth inning, per CNA.

Teng currently holds a 3-3 record with a 2.19 ERA. He has appeared in 17 games this season, including four starts, and has pitched 37 innings overall.

Across his last two starts, he has thrown 11 consecutive scoreless innings.

The Cubs, who were limited to three hits in Saturday’s loss, have now dropped seven straight games. The two teams will meet again on Sunday.
