Memory sector dominates top earnings rankings among Taiwan's listed firms in first quarter

記憶體產業在台灣上市公司第一季度獲利排名中佔據主導地位。

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Memory-related companies accounted for five of the top 10 positions in first-quarter earnings per share rankings among listed firms in Taiwan, reflecting strong profitability across the sector.

The performance was supported by sustained demand for artificial intelligence servers, high-speed storage solutions, and enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs). It was also supported by rising prices for certain memory products, such as DRAM and NAND flash, according to CTEE.

Firms in the sector occupied the second, third, fifth, eighth, and ninth positions in the rankings. Phison Electronics Corp. placed second, ranking highest among memory firms, with EPS of NT$68.8 (US$2).

EPS is an important measure of a company’s profitability, showing how much profit it earns for each share of stock. It is calculated by dividing a company’s net profit after tax by the total number of shares outstanding, according to Sinotrade.

Innodisk Corp. ranked third with EPS of NT$57.49. Albatron Technology Co. placed fifth with EPS of NT$43.05, Adata Technology Co. came in eighth with EPS of NT$30.05, while Team Group Inc. ranked ninth with EPS of NT$27.

Institutional investors said Phison's earnings growth was driven primarily by tight NAND Flash supply and continued price increases. NAND Flash is a type of non-volatile storage technology that retains data without a power source, with supply constraints potentially lasting through 2028 and prices expected to remain on an upward trend in the second half of the year, according to UDN Money and IBM.

Another factor is the rapid rise in demand for AI servers and enterprise AI applications. This has driven strong growth in enterprise-grade SSDs, a type of storage device used in data centers and cloud systems that prioritize fast and stable performance, as well as industrial control modules and high-speed storage products, according to Solid State Storage Technology Corp. and Kingston Technology.

Notably, Phison's AI ecosystem module accounted for 41% of total revenue in the period, up 259% quarter-on-quarter. The module is a company-developed storage solution designed for AI computing environments, integrating NAND Flash to support high-volume data processing in AI servers, according to Phison.

Analysts said the ongoing expansion of AI data centers and edge computing is increasing demand and tightening supply across the memory market, supporting profitability for related manufacturers. Etron Technology said AI-driven structural changes are expected to keep DDR4 and DDR5 in short supply at least through mid-next year, according to Sinotrade.
