Taipower begins employee recruitment across Taiwan
台電開始在台灣各地招募員工
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipower on Sunday began its annual recruitment exams for new employees at eight testing centers across Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien.
More than 9,000 people registered for the exams, and 5,257 applicants sat for them. Taipower plans to recruit 769 employees, resulting in an acceptance rate of 14.63%. The company said candidates advancing to the second round of interviews are expected to be announced on July 14, with interviews scheduled to begin Aug. 4, per a press release.
Successful applicants who complete training will receive a starting monthly salary of nearly NT$38,000 (US$1,170). Employees working in field power operations or holding relevant professional certifications may earn more than NT$40,000.
Taipower said the recruitment drive is intended to strengthen power supply stability, improve grid resilience, and enhance the quality of electricity services. The hiring campaign covers 14 employment categories, including distribution, transmission, electrical engineering, general administration, and accounting.
According to Taipower’s analysis, the power line maintenance category offered the largest number of openings this year, with 436 positions attracting about 1,600 applicants. The most competitive category was general administration, which drew a record 4,703 applicants competing for 69 positions, resulting in an acceptance rate of just 1.47%.
To protect employment rights for people with disabilities, Taipower added 26 positions for applicants with disabilities in the general administration category, attracting 447 applicants, according to the press release.
Taipower said personnel from the National Communications Commission were stationed at examination centers during testing to monitor abnormal radio signals. Electronic and metal detectors were also deployed, and additional staff were assigned as proctors to prevent cheating.
The company said answer sheets for the exams will be available on the recruitment website beginning Monday. The second round of testing will include written reviews, on-site evaluations, practical tests, and oral interviews.
Applicants for distribution line maintenance, transmission line maintenance, and substation equipment maintenance positions are required to obtain a manual transmission driver’s license before the second round of testing because of job requirements.
Taipower said field workers must possess sufficient physical strength and will be required to pass pull-up, grip strength, weighted walking, and color vision tests during the second round to ensure they can carry out power maintenance duties.
To attract experienced professionals, Taipower said practical examinations will account for part of the overall score for all electrical technician positions in an effort to recruit applicants with hands-on technical experience.
Final candidates must complete a one-year training and on-the-job training program. Employees working as field electrical technicians or holding electrical-related certifications may qualify for salary increases.
Recruitment guidelines and additional information are available on Taipower’s recruitment website and the Taiwan Power Company website.v
