Taiwan firms join AI Expo Korea for 1st time

台灣企業首次參加韓國國際人工智慧展(AI Expo Korea)

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Sixteen Taiwan companies took part in AI Expo Korea in Seoul for the first time Wednesday, CNA reported.

The three-day event opened at the Coex exhibition center in Seoul. The Taiwan pavilion is showing off the country’s AI supply chain, from chips and hardware to software applications.

Taiwan companies are targeting three major opportunities in the South Korean market. These include reducing graphics processing unit costs and shortages, protecting data sovereignty, and helping manufacturers adopt AI faster, per Economic Daily News.

Taiwan Trade Center in Seoul Director Wang Hsien-hui (王憲輝) said both countries are key players in global AI development. He added they have similar needs, which creates both challenges and opportunities.

Generalplus Technology Senior Project Manager Wang Chia-lin (王嘉霖) was among the Taiwan representatives at the expo. The company is showcasing a driver-monitoring system that can detect whether drivers are paying attention, as well as virtual avatar and gesture recognition technology, per UDN.

Wang said he hoped the expo would lead to more exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and South Korea. Other exhibitors include software and hardware companies offering AI-related products and services.

Soundslab, another Taiwan exhibitor, is presenting sign language technology that uses AI and 3D virtual characters. Founder Chen Po-jui (陳柏瑞) said South Korea also values sign language services, and the company hopes to find new agents or partners.
