台灣在印尼舉辦國際醫學研討會

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Surabaya held a one-day International Medical Symposium featuring keynote presentations from international health experts.

The symposium was organized by the office in collaboration with several foreign consulates, CNA reported. National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) Yunlin Branch and Airlangga University Hospital in Surabaya also partnered to organize the event.

Chiu Chen-yu (邱陳煜), director-general of TETO Surabaya, said Taiwan’s health care system has consistently been ranked No. 1 globally by Numbeo, the world's largest cost-of-living database. Taiwan is committed to integrating its medical and technological strengths to enhance innovation, Chiu said.

As the Indonesian central government and East Java province work to upgrade local medical standards and reduce the number of citizens seeking treatment abroad, Chiu said Taiwan is undoubtedly the best partner for Indonesia, according to CNA.

He added that Taiwan produces the vast majority of the world’s high-end chips and AI servers.

Chen Hsin-shui (陳信水), vice superintendent of NTUH Yunlin Branch, led a team of attending physicians and head nurses specializing in metabolism, oncology, pediatrics, nursing, and international medicine to the symposium, per CNA. The team shared Taiwan’s experiences in cancer screening and telemedicine.

Ma Hui-ming (馬惠明), superintendent of NTUH Yunlin Branch, discussed emerging trends in AI-driven health care. Experts from ICT giant Quanta Computer also provided industry perspectives.

Larissa Meyer of the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas and Rebecca Merrill, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention country director for Indonesia, represented the US. Other participants included representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Sapporo Cardiovascular Center, Australia’s Icon Cancer Centre, and Indonesia’s Dharmais National Cancer Hospital, according to CNA.
