TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Chengchi University claimed its sixth consecutive University Basketball Association Men’s Division I title on Sunday, defeating National Taiwan University of Sport 92-50 at Taipei Arena, per CNA.
The victory extended NCCU’s winning streak to 74 games, further cementing its dominance in university basketball. Point guard Hsu Te-chi (徐得祈), who was named Finals MVP, contributed 15 points and four assists.
Song Hsin-hao (宋昕澔) added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The championship underscores NCCU’s dynasty in the UBA, following its title in the inaugural Asian University Basketball League in Hangzhou last August.
Head coach Chen Tzu-wei (陳子威) credited team cohesion for the win, saying every player contributed and deserved recognition. He likened the team’s performance to a relay race, with each player stepping up when needed.
Chen said the team aims to extend its winning streak and take on more international challenges, while continuing to develop players for Taiwan’s national and professional teams.
Reacting to his MVP award, Hsu initially questioned whether a teammate deserved it instead, noting that the team had struggled with cohesion earlier in the tournament. As captain, he emphasized communication and leadership, adding jokingly that he was relieved to step down from the role.
In the women’s division, Shih Hsin University defeated Chinese Culture University 66-61 in overtime to secure its sixth championship in seven years, per CNA.
Head coach Lin Chi-wen (林紀妏) praised Yu Chin-hua (游沁樺), highlighting her defensive contributions and naming her as the team’s MVP. Yu recorded four points, 17 rebounds, and seven assists.
Tsai Yu-lien (蔡佑蓮) led Shih Hsin with 12 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists in an all-around performance.
Lin said the season was challenging following the departure of key players but expressed confidence in her squad. Yu said winning the championship felt surreal and added that she is ready to pursue higher-level competition after developing her leadership and experience this season.
