Taipei Confucius Temple to host student blessing ceremony

台北孔廟將舉辦學生祈福儀式

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Confucius Temple will host its annual student blessing ceremony on April 25, offering encouragement and spiritual support for young test takers.

Each year, thousands of students visit the temple ahead of high school entrance exams in mid-May to pray for academic success. This year’s event, themed “Sages’ Guidance, Ascending with Every Step,” draws on traditional rituals while incorporating modern elements, per a press release.

Inspired in part by the temple’s proximity to Taipei Songshan Airport, organizers said this year's ceremony will allow students to take off toward their goals. A series of giveaways will also embolden students with soaring confidence.

According to organizers, there are three steps to the blessing ceremony. First, students should bring their exam registration documents to the information desk. There, they will receive a limited-edition pen and moisture-wicking socks embroidered with a Confucian design and calligraphy encouraging them to achieve “step-by-step success.”

Participants in the blessing ceremony then proceed to Dacheng Hall (大成殿), where attendants guide them through a traditional three-bow ritual. The first bow is for enlightenment, the second for inspiration, and the third for perfect scores.

Organizers believe it will help students build confidence, cultivate mindfulness, and maintain calm during exams. Students are later invited to write their goals on prayer cards and place them in a collection box outside the hall as a message to Confucius.

The event also invites students to write postcards to themselves in collaboration with Chunghwa Post. Each postcard will be mailed on Sept. 28, marking Confucius’ birthday, encouraging students at the start of the new school year.

To help students stay energized, event sponsors will provide snacks and beverages. Participants who check in on social media can receive gift packs that may include items from brands such as Zespri, Airwaves, and Taisun.

The ceremony will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Taipei Confucius Temple, located at 275, Dalong St., Datong District. Organizers said the event combines ancient ritual with contemporary creativity to provide both spiritual comfort and practical motivation for students facing key academic milestones.
