TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) said Monday that the Sanying MRT Line, or Light Blue Line, has completed dynamic testing and has been submitted to the city’s transportation bureau for preliminary inspection.
Hou said the line will soon be submitted to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for final inspection, with authorities hoping to begin operations in June, per CNA. He made the remarks while presiding over a groundbreaking ceremony for the Sanying MRT Line development project at Exit 2 of Sanxia Station.
The mayor said that since taking office, several New Taipei MRT projects, including the Circular Line, Danhai Light Rail, and Ankeng Light Rail, have already opened. He added that the Sanying Line is expected to open on schedule this year, while the Wanda – Zhonghe – Shulin Line is scheduled for completion next year.
He said the Sanying Line has seven joint development projects along its route, expected to attract NT$48.5 billion (US$1.52 billion) in investment. The projects are projected to bring in around 14,000 residents, helping drive development in New Taipei’s Sanxia and Yingge districts.
Hou added that five of the seven development projects have already been tendered. Monday’s ceremony marked the groundbreaking for development at the second exit of Sanxia Station.
The public space allocated from the project is expected to be used for daycare, long-term care, and mental health services. He said he hopes the project will be completed smoothly in 2029.
