TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai attended Nvidia’s GPU Technology Conference in San Jose on Monday to hear CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) deliver a keynote speech.

Chen talked with Foxconn Chair Young Liu (劉揚偉) and other companies such as Linker Vision, a software company focused on physical AI, CNA reported. The mayor later visited booths from Nvidia, Foxconn, Cisco, Amazon Web Services, Wistron, and Linker Vision on the GTC exhibition floor to learn about their technologies and apply insights to Kaohsiung’s tech development.

Kaohsiung is currently working with Nvidia for its “Smart Kaohsiung Lighthouse Project” to develop the world’s largest city-level large language model, per CNA.

Chen is on a US trip as part of a joint delegation with officials from Kumamoto Prefecture to strengthen ties with two West Coast technology corridor hubs. He first visited Arizona, where he signed a trilateral economic cooperation agreement with Arizona and Kumamoto to form a semiconductor strategic triangle.

He also visited the University of Arizona to promote cross-border cooperation in silicon photonics research. The university proposed creating a Silicon Photonics Arizona Kaohsiung Center to enhance research collaboration.
