TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — IC design company MediaTek on Tuesday unveiled three new Genio series platforms designed to integrate strong AI computing capabilities into robots, drones, and industrial IoT devices, CNA reported.
At the three-day Embedded World event in Germany, which runs through Thursday, MediaTek is showcasing its latest technologies for robotic and drone applications. The company said it developed the platforms using its expertise in advanced process technologies and its strengths in mobile communications and computing.
Genio Pro, one of the platforms in the series, adopts TSMC’s 3-nanometer process and integrates high-efficiency chip design, delivering strong computing and graphics performance. The platform also features MediaTek’s neural processing unit, a chip designed to support generative AI operations.
Genio Pro can run large AI language models with up to 7 billion parameters, generating text at a rate of about 18 words per second. It is compatible with Linux systems and can integrate with open-source robotics frameworks.
To meet the demand for multi-sensor integration in robots and UAVs, Genio Pro supports up to 16 cameras and three sets of 4K displays. It can operate in temperatures ranging from minus 40 C to 105 C, making it suitable for factory environments. The platform is set to enter mass production in the third quarter of this year.
MediaTek also unveiled Genio 420 and Genio 360, other platforms in the series suitable for smart homes, retail, and commercial IoT applications. Genio 420 is expected to be sent to customers for testing in April, while Genio 360 has started being tested by partners.
The company said Genio 420 uses a 6 nm process and 16 gigabytes of random-access memory, also delivering strong AI computing power. Genio 360, meanwhile, enables basic AI-driven voice recognition for store checkout systems and smart home appliances.
With fewer working days in February because of the Lunar New Year holiday, along with early shipments to some customers, MediaTek posted February revenue of NT$38.95 billion (US$1.25 billion), down 17.08% from January and 15.63% from the same month last year. Revenue for January and February totaled NT$85.93 billion, down 11.7% year on year.
