Taiwan firms to showcase 6G and satellite tech at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona
台灣企業將在巴塞隆納世界行動通訊大會上展示6G和衛星技術
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese companies will showcase artificial intelligence and satellite communications technologies at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which opens March 2.
Past editions of MWC, one of the world’s largest mobile communications trade shows, have generated significant orders for Taiwanese suppliers. This year, 13 entities will exhibit under a Taiwan Pavilion organized by the government, while another 25 technology firms will participate independently, according to CTEE.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs said most potential orders are expected to come from system integrators and telecom operators in Europe and the US. This year’s event emphasizes AI-driven connectivity, enterprise AI applications, and smart infrastructure, which officials said could create opportunities for Taiwanese manufacturers.
Taiwan’s exhibits will highlight AI-related applications. Featured technologies include servers, 1.6-terabit high-speed transmission solutions, industrial computers, end-to-end communications equipment, data centers, cybersecurity, and software platforms.
Independent local participants include MediaTek, Quanta Computer subsidiary Quanta Cloud Technology, Pegatron, and Senao Networks. The Taiwan Pavilion features Micro-Star International, Auden Techno, Chunghwa Telecom, and the Industrial Technology Research Institute.
Chunghwa Telecom is expected to host representatives from US-based Verizon and Japan’s Rakuten as the three sides advance cooperation on Open RAN for 5G and 6G and next-generation communications ecosystems. The telecom operator will also arrange business matchmaking sessions to help Taiwanese firms pursue overseas orders.
ITRI plans to showcase next-generation 6G technologies, intelligent network management systems, and non-terrestrial satellite networks. The presentations aim to highlight Taiwan’s research and development capabilities in advanced communications.
Global technology companies including Amazon Web Services, AMD, Dell, Meta, Google and Nokia will attend, alongside executives from telecom operators such as AT&T, Vodafone, SK Telecom, and Alibaba Cloud.
Satellite communications will also be a key focus. SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell, Eutelsat CEO Jean-Francois Fallacher, and Starlink Vice President of Engineering Michael Nicolls are scheduled to attend in person.
Their participation highlights the expanding role of satellites in next-generation networks and could create new opportunities for cooperation and orders for Taiwan’s satellite supply chain. Satellite and radio-frequency chips are becoming increasingly central to technological development, supporting ground communication equipment and enabling connections between Earth and satellites, according to Sinotrade.
