Taitung pineapple custard apple sales grow in Singapore
台東鳳梨釋迦在新加坡的銷售成長
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taitung’s pineapple custard apple, a specialty fruit from eastern Taiwan, has sold more than 16,000 kilograms in Singapore after three years of market development.
The county government said Sunday it began cultivating the Singapore market in 2024 and stepped up efforts in 2025 by securing stable supply and working with major retail chains. Officials said the approach has increased consumer recognition and repeat purchases.
CNA reported the fruit entered Singapore in 2024 through DFI Group supermarkets, recording sales of about 6,880 kilograms in its first year. Distribution expanded to NTUC FairPrice in 2025, boosting annual sales to about 9,170 kilograms.
“FairPrice sold single fruits aimed at daily household use, while DFI focused on higher-end customers through premium gift boxes at Cold Storage outlets,” the county government said. Officials said the strategy allowed the fruit to reach both everyday consumers and seasonal gift markets, per Economic Daily News.
To increase familiarity among consumers, the county government held more than 100 tasting and promotional events at FairPrice and DFI stores from Jan. 24 to Feb. 28. Staff introduced the fruit’s origin and flavor, which officials said helped raise purchase rates, per Liberty Times.
