Tainan sugar festival brings over 100 stalls to Yongkang District
台南甜點節在永康區舉辦,超過100個攤位。
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan’s Tourism Bureau on Saturday hosted a two-day international sugar festival near the city’s public library in Yongkang District, bringing together more than 100 dessert, coffee and specialty food vendors.
The city government said the festival is co-organized by the Yongkang District Office, the Dadongqiao Commercial District Tourism Development Association, and Siwei Marketing. The event aims to create a walkable market where visitors can idle away hours eating and shopping.
“Tainan’s history as a sugar-producing city makes it a natural home for a dessert festival,” Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said. Huang added that many former sugar factories have become tourist sites and that the city’s sugar culture now supports a thriving dessert industry that boosts business.
CNA reported this year marks the third time the festival has been hosted in Yongkang and the sixth edition overall. Visitors can buy sweets, farm goods, and holiday supplies in one place and are encouraged to return on both days to fully experience the event.
Liberty Times reported the festival is expected to surpass last year’s record of 130,000 visits. DPP Legislator Chen Ting-fei (陳亭妃), who also attended the event, said enjoying sweet treats can lift people’s moods and wished visitors lasting memories of their favorite flavors.
