Keelung signs deal for Taiwan’s largest yacht marina
基隆市簽署協議,興建台灣最大的遊艇碼頭
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang (謝國樑) last Friday signed a deal with Argo Yacht Club Chair Hou You-lin (侯佑霖) to begin construction of Taiwan’s largest international yacht marina in Badouzi.
According to the Keelung City Government, the project is a public-private partnership with Argo Yacht Group and marks a key step toward turning Keelung into an international maritime hub. The mayor said the marina will help develop the ocean economy and drive urban renewal.
CNA reported last Friday that the project’s initial investment is expected to exceed NT$2 billion (US$64 million). The plan includes a hotel with about 200 rooms, about 9,900 square meters of retail space, and more than 500 new jobs.
Hsieh said the marina is not just for yacht owners but is meant to open the harbor to the public with leisure, tourism, and shared waterfront space. The goal is to make the port easy to access and part of daily life, he said.
Hou said the Keelung marina fills the last gap in the firm’s north-to-south marina network around Taiwan. He said boat owners will be able to sail easily from southern Taiwan and Penghu to Keelung.
The city's Economic Affairs Department Director Tsai Fu-ning (蔡馥嚀) said the project will tie in local fishers, National Taiwan Ocean University, and nearby tourism zones. She said this could help upgrade fisheries and boost related sectors such as dining, lodging, transport, and services.
