TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The North Concourse of Taoyuan Airport’s Terminal 3 began full operations Thursday, easing congestion while the main building is due to be completed by 2027.
President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) and other officials attended the opening ceremony, per CNA. The North Concourse, with eight boarding gates (D11–D18), handled 259 flights and 58,801 passengers during trial operations from Dec. 1–24, covering Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and Hong Kong and Macau routes.
Taoyuan International Airport Corp. said the North Concourse will serve 40 flights daily, reduce remote apron use, and share passenger traffic with other terminals, per UDN. Passengers will continue to check in via Terminal 2 until the main Terminal 3 is completed.
Lai outlined three priorities. First, complete Terminal 3 by 2027 so the third runway can be built. Second, finish supporting infrastructure including the A14 Airport MRT station.
Third, reach long-term goals of 83 million passengers, 3.85 million metric tons of cargo, and 435,000 aircraft movements by 2045, generating NT$2.2 trillion (US$70 billion) in economic benefits.
Lai noted that Terminal 3’s North Concourse opening marks a first step in the larger project and reflects Taiwan’s commitment to competitiveness in aviation.
