Taiwan’s 7-Eleven boosts fresh food offerings

台灣7-ELEVEN增加新鮮食品供應

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — 7‑Eleven has boosted fresh food offerings by launching new items monthly and partnering with other foodservice brands to meet growing demand from customers.

At an investor meeting on Monday, President Chain Store Corp. said that fresh food sales at its 7‑Eleven stores have increased annually. This year, the segment is expected to reach NT$50 billion (US$1.6 billion), about 25% of the store’s revenue, per CNA.

The company noted that it will continue to launch special fresh food sets with eggs, prompting its stores to sell around 100 million eggs annually. It plans to further expand sales of marinated eggs and boiled eggs.

Sales of 7-Eleven’s Southeast Asian–flavored fresh foods have grown for three consecutive years. The chain has partnered with Baan Phadthai to offer Thai-style bento boxes and salads, and has introduced Indonesian and Vietnamese dishes, selling more than 100,000 servings.

The convenience store has also adopted a strategy of increasing fresh food portions without raising prices, boosting revenue in the segment. Since 2023, it has launched a dessert section, generating around NT$100 million in annual sales.

The chain offers salads and light meals high in protein for diet-conscious consumers. At approximately 2,300 stores located in transport hubs and hospitals, it has expanded sales of ready-to-eat foods, such as steamed sweet potatoes and corn.

7‑Eleven operates four factories in Taiwan, producing over 500,000 fresh food items daily. The company plans to open 200 new stores this year. With fresh food sales continuing to rise, it will invest NT$593 million to build a new factory in Tainan’s Xinshi District, expected to begin operations in 2027.

The convenience store reported that revenue for the first three quarters of this year reached NT$260.9 billion, a 3.64% increase from the same period last year. The growth was mainly driven by store expansion, upgraded fresh food offerings, and enhanced membership programs.
