Taiwan’s Phihong to expand high-power supply deployment
台灣電源廠飛宏(Phihong)將擴大高功率電源部署
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Phihong Technology said that it will expand its R&D and manufacturing of high-power power supplies, with R&D expenditures projected to increase to 10% of revenue next year, up from 7% this year.
The company reported revenue of NT$8.99 billion (US$288 million) for the first 11 months of this year, a 7.73% decline from last year. It posted a net loss of NT$414 million for the first three quarters, compared with a net profit of NT$217 million in the same period last year, per CNA.
Phihong President Frank Lin (林冠宏) attributed the revenue decline to rising competition in the EV charging market. In response, the company has set up a cost-control task force to optimize its EV products and maintain profit margins, as these products account for around 30% of its revenue.
Lin said the company has been transforming, scaling back production of low-margin products such as mobile phone chargers. It is shifting toward higher-margin, high-power offerings, a move that helped drive third-quarter revenue growth.
Lin added the company will also expand R&D for power supplies used in networking equipment and servers. Phihong aims to first boost its 500W and 1,000W product lines before moving into 3,000W and 5,000W server power supplies. The company expects to complete R&D of its high-power products next year.
Phihong’s wholly owned EV charger subsidiary, Zerova, saw shipments delayed this year due to US tariffs, resulting in a 20–30% decline in revenue from the segment. However, performance in Europe and Japan remained solid. The company forecast that EV charger–related revenue will grow by at least 25% next year, mainly driven by an expected replacement cycle for early charging infrastructure between next year and 2027.
Prices for raw materials used in electronic products, including copper, gold, and tin, have risen significantly, Lin said. The company will consider raising product prices in response.
