Bank of Taiwan unveils ‘Year of the Horse’ silver coin

台灣銀行推出「馬年」銀幣

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Bank of Taiwan on Monday announced a commemorative “Year of the Horse” silver coin designed and produced by the Central Mint.

Each coin is priced at NT$2,460 (US$80), with a limited run of 50,000 pieces. It is the seventh coin in the bank’s gilded Chinese zodiac series, per CNA.

The coin is available at Bank of Taiwan branches and partner institutions, including Land Bank of Taiwan, Chunghwa Post, Hua Nan Bank, Taiwan Business Bank, E.Sun Bank, and Taipei Star Bank.

Bank of Taiwan said the theme, “Taking the Lead,” features a spirited horse galloping across a field of lucky clovers, symbolizing courage and determination. A mirror-like finish enhances the three-dimensional relief and craftsmanship, representing good fortune and hopes for prosperity in the coming year.

The reverse side features imagery from artist Chang Ke-chi’s (張克齊) painting “Lychee,” symbolizing great fortune and abundance. It also includes a portrait of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, along with inscriptions indicating weight (“1 oz”) and silver purity (“Ag 999”).

Each coin comes in a transparent, double-sided acrylic display case designed to showcase details while protecting it from damage.
