Taiwanese shuttler Chou Tien-chen claims Arctic Open crown
台灣羽球選手周天成奪得北極羽球公開賽冠軍
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen (周天成) successfully defended his men’s singles title at the Arctic Open on Sunday, defeating Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in a hard-fought three-game final.
The 35-year-old battled for 1 hour, 17 minutes, rallying from behind to win 21-11, 13-21, 21-19. Returning to Finland, where he lifted the same trophy last year, Chou again triumphed after five consecutive three-game matches during the tournament, per CNA and LTN.
His perseverance was tested in the semifinals when he injured his right hand diving for a shot, drawing blood but refusing to withdraw. In the final, he continued despite a burst blister on his left foot.
Chou later said he hoped to inspire the children in attendance by demonstrating sportsmanship and determination.
Currently ranked world No. 5, Chou had reached two finals this year at the Taipei Open and Indonesia Open, and made four semifinal appearances. However, a title had remained elusive until his Arctic Open victory.
Following his win in Finland, Chou will head to Denmark for the upcoming Denmark Open. He is seeded fifth and scheduled to face former world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen in the opening round.
