Taiwanese eligible for eGates in New Zealand airports
台灣人可享有紐西蘭機場自動通關(eGates)服務
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan passport holders are now eligible to clear immigration via eGate automated border control systems at New Zealand airports.
The Ministry of the Interior announced on Monday (Oct. 13) that New Zealand has opened its eGate system to Taiwanese travelers, per CNA. New Zealand becomes the eighth country, after the US, South Korea, Australia, Italy, Germany, Singapore, and Malaysia, to offer automatic clearance to Taiwanese citizens.
New Zealand has also introduced a digital declaration, the New Zealand Traveller Declaration. Taiwanese travelers need only complete the form online within 24 hours before their flight; upon arrival, they can proceed directly to eGate.
The ministry said that, based on reciprocity, Taiwan plans to grant holders of New Zealand chip passports eGate privileges when entering Taiwanese airports. This policy is expected to take effect between late November and December this year.
The ministry added that Taiwan and New Zealand share the values of democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. With over 60,000 visits between the two countries annually, reciprocal eGate access will make travel more convenient and foster closer cooperation and exchanges across various fields.
The ministry pledged to continue promoting reciprocal eGate agreements with other countries to expand automatic clearance systems, enhancing international travel convenience and boosting tourism to Taiwan.
