Moovo public e-bike program expands in central Taiwan

Moovo 公共電動自行車計畫在台灣中部擴展

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Changhua County on Monday (Oct. 13) launched its 10th Moovo public e-bike docking area in Yongjing Township, expanding access to low-carbon transport across the county, per CNA.

A ceremony at National Yongjing Industrial Vocational School drew Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei (王惠美) and local officials. Wang said the goal is to place Moovo docking areas near major train stations in every township and city to make public transport more convenient.

“The addition of the Yongjing station marks another step forward in promoting low-carbon travel,” Wang said. The program initially provided 100 e-bikes for public use, with the number adjusted based on demand.

According to Wang, Changhua County’s public bike network (including YouBike) now has 156 stations and more than 2,700 bicycles. She said the county will keep expanding the network to improve last-mile connectivity for commuters and tourists.

The launch coincides with the Taiwan Design Exhibition in Changhua, where nearby Moovo docking areas offer visitors a convenient, eco-friendly option.

Moovo, operated by Rybit, is the first smart-docking e-bike-sharing platform in Taiwan. Moovo e-bikes do not need to be returned to traditional docks like YouBike; instead, riders must return them to designated geofenced areas to facilitate maintenance, charging, and rentals.

Moovo partners with local governments and universities to provide short-distance e-bike rentals. The system complements existing YouBike networks by focusing on smaller communities and linking public transit hubs, promoting greener urban mobility and reducing carbon emissions.
