TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TSMC staged a 150-drone show over Phoenix, Arizona, on Oct. 4 to mark Taiwan’s National Day ahead of the holiday.

Taiwan’s National Day, also known as Double Ten Day, falls on Oct. 10. It commemorates the 1911 Wuchang Uprising, which sparked the Xinhai Revolution and led to the founding of the country, according to Century.

Held for the fourth consecutive year at Arizona State University, the celebration drew more than 7,000 attendees, including city officials, local residents, Taiwanese expatriates, and TSMC employees with their families. More than 1,000 TSMC staff took part, per CNA.

The drones formed images including the Taiwan flag, Taipei 101, a Formosan black bear, and traditional sky lanterns, presenting Taiwanese culture in a modern, high-tech display.

Phoenix is home to roughly 30,000 people of Taiwanese descent, more than 40 Taiwanese businesses, and over 500 Taiwanese students.

Mayor Kate Gallego highlighted the city’s strong ties with Taiwan, from bubble tea and xiaolongbao to healthcare and the semiconductor industry. She said the event helped Taiwanese visitors feel at home while giving the wider community a deeper appreciation of Taiwan’s culture.

Fong Chung-yu (方崇宇), an official from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, praised Taiwan’s resilience and innovation, noting the country’s sixth-place ranking in the latest global competitiveness index as evidence of continued economic strength despite supply-chain challenges and geopolitical pressures.
