TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei has narrowed down potential sites for its planned sports dome to two locations in the Shulin and Tamsui Districts.

The New Taipei City Government announced at a municipal meeting on Wednesday that out of six proposed sites for the New Taipei Dome, two finalists have been selected: the Shulin Jiwu industrial zone and Tamsui New Town Phase II, per CNA.

These were deemed the most promising locations and will undergo further evaluation before a final site is chosen by the end of the year.

The six potential sites previously proposed included Banshu Gymnasium, Shulin Daganyuan, Sanxia Maiziyuan, Tamsui New Town Phase II, Tucheng Detention Center, and land south of Shulin Jiwu.

According to a report by New Taipei Deputy Mayor Liu Ho-jan (劉和然) at Wednesday's meeting, Shulin Jiwu and Tamsui Phase II were recommended by experts as possible sites. The city has now initiated the relevant urban planning procedures.

At 75 meters in height, the proposed New Taipei Dome will be one meter taller than the Taipei Dome. It will accommodate 50,000 spectators, making it similar in scale to Tokyo Dome.
